Eon launches smart heating app

Big six supplier Eon has launched a smart phone app to allow customers to control their heating and hot water remotely.

Eon said it has developed the system in response to customer feedback which revealed remote control is a top priority.

81 per cent of customers want to be able to see and change heating and hot water settings while away from home, 84 per cent want easy to set temperatures and schedules and 78 per cent want an app available for a smart phone.

Eon said customers can also benefit from helpful daily and monthly reports about their energy use and personalised information to help them manage their household energy more efficiently.

Eon residential and customer operations director David Bird said: “We’ve developed Eon Touch after listening to our customers’ feedback. Heating our homes and water make up a huge proportion of our home energy bills.

“That’s why we’re pleased to enable Eon Touch customers to better control their heating and hot water, as well as offering them personalised information to help them see how they’re using energy and where savings can be made.”

Eon said heating and hot water accounts for 75 per cent of energy use in the home, with almost three quarters of home-owners using heating programmes.

More than 90 per cent of the customers that do override their programmes in winter months.

The system provides customers with a room sensor to control home temperature, a relay switch for boiler control and a wireless-connected gateway for overall control for £199.99.

Eon Touch will allow customers to “help better manage their home energy use, conveniently and simply” Eon said.

The system is currently only available to customers in the midlands, East Anglia and welsh borders.
