Ovo Energy has become the first supplier to launch an app for the Apple Watch.
The updated app, part of the supplier’s existing MyOvo online dashboard, gives Apple Watch customers the benefit of giving meter readings through voice recognition and at-a-glance estimates of how much they’ve spent since their last bill.
The Ovo smartphone app already allows smartphone users to give meter reading notifications, access bills and statements, current balance and usage and instant access to help and support.
Ovo’s chief technology officer Mariano Albera said: “Piece by piece, we’re continuing to disrupt and improve the experience for UK energy customers, who’ve been starved of any innovation, much of it due to the dominance of the Big Six energy companies.”
This latest technology release follows the launch of a smart pay-as-you-go energy platform and app for its prepayment customers in March.
The Smart PAYG+ platform allows “under-served and over-charged” pay-as-you-go customers to top up and monitor their energy usage anywhere via an app, text, online or at a local Paypoint outlet.
