Public sector water retail market valued at £960m

Crown Commercial Services issues tender documents for public sector water supply.

Crown Commercial Service (CCS) has valued the public sector water retail market at £960 million and issued tender documents for licensees.

The CCS is collaborating with a number of bodies, including The Energy Consortium and the Ministry of Defence, to bring to market the largest public sector water framework agreement in the UK.

Director at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Sarah Hendry, confirmed in an Open Water update that this development “brings the scale of change [in the water market] to life”.

She also said the final stage of the assurance process is now underway.

“I am confident it will reveal that partners and market participants will complete their programmes and stand ready to provide customers with an excellent service in the new market,” she added.

“I would like to thank the members of the Assurance Group, which has acted as a ‘critical friend’ over the course of the process, for their constructive challenge and counsel.”
