SSE Airtricity has cut its gas prices by 10.2 per cent in Greater Belfast, in agreement with the regulator.
The cut will bring its 135,000 domestic and small business gas customers in Greater Belfast an average saving of £53 per year from 1 April 2016.
Utility Regulator chief executive Jenny Pyper said: “I am delighted to be able to welcome SSE Airtricity Gas Supply’s reduction in gas bills.
“The main reason for this decrease is falling wholesale gas costs, which have fallen by 44% in the past year. As these costs make up around half of the gas tariff, this decrease is reflected in the 24% fall in tariffs over the same period.”
This announcement marks the conclusion of the tariff review which began in January 2016, undertaken by the Utility Regulator and SSE Airtricity Gas Supply.
SSE Airtricity also cut its electricity prices – which are unregulated – by 10.3 per cent. Power NI, the market leader in Northern Ireland, also decreased its regulated electricity tariff by 10.3 per cent at the beginning of February.
The move follows a string of price cuts in the UK.
