Energy Switch Guarantee has given customers more confidence when changing supplier, says new report
More than 90% of those who have recently switched energy suppliers were satisfied with the process, according to new research from Energy UK.
The industry trade body found that almost half a million customers changed supplier in August 2017 alone, bringing the total number of switchers this year to nearly 3.5 million.
The 1,000 customers surveyed also expressed support for the Energy Switch Guarantee, which launched last summer. More than two thirds agreed it would increase their confidence when switching, with the majority of respondents saying it had made them more likely to switch in the first place.
The guarantee is a set of ten commitments developed by suppliers to help simplify the switching process and ensure customers’ safety.
Three quarters of the market are signed up to the guarantee, including British Gas, E.ON, EDF, npower and Scottish Power.
Tina Tietjen, Independent Chair of the Energy Switch Guarantee, said: “I’m delighted that 90 per cent of those who have switched are satisfied customers. The guarantee is doing exactly what it was designed for – giving customers the confidence to switch their energy supplier.
“In August almost half a million customers switched supplier, and with more than 50 active providers to choose from, there has never been a better time to shop around.
“It only takes a few minutes to find out if you could be on a better deal.
“Our message to consumers is: Before you flick the switch – switch with confidence with the Energy Switch Guarantee which makes switching simple, speedy and safe”
