ADSM and Peel Water become latest water retail licensees

Two more new entrants granted permission to participate in open water market, bringing the total to 22

Two more retailers – Advanced Demand Side Management (ADSM) and Peel Water – have been granted water supply and sewerage licences by Ofwat. The licences will allow the companies to participate in the new water retail market when it opens on 3 April.

Utility consultancy ADSM applied in for its licence in January. It said it wishes to enter the market to sell retail water and sewerage services, as a “natural progression” to its existing business model.

Peel Water applied in the same month, with the ambition of “opportunistically” acquiring large customers. The firm said its plan is to extend the services it currently provides to its existing customer base of large water users within the Peel Group.

There are now 22 licenced participants in the English market, including brewer Greene King which was granted a self-supply licence.

Glas Cymru subsidiary Cambrian Utilities is the only applicant still waiting to hear if it will be able to participate in the new market.
