Angela Smith has been announced as shadow water minister today in a mini Labour reshuffle.
In a straight swap, former incumbent Thomas Docherty has become Shadow Deputy Leader of the House.
Member for Penistone and Stocksbridge from 2010, Smith has experience in environmental issues as chair of the APPG on Conservation and Wildlife.
Smith’s spokesman added: “I think it’s fair to say the environment has always been a major interest for Angela and with around 15 reservoirs in her constituency she knows the importance the supply of water has on people’s lives.
“Also she represents a semi-rural constituency which has large piece of the Peak National Park within its boundaries therefore she has a good understanding of many of the issues that arise from such areas.”
