Anglian names Kier as preferred bidder on contracts worth £130m

Anglian Water has named construction firm Kier as the preferred bidder for two 15-year contracts, with a combined value of up to £130 million.

Kier will begin works on an AMP6 Integrated Metering and Developer Services (IMDS) contract alongside Clancy Docwra in 2015. The contract is valued at up to £12 million a year and is expected to be formally awarded in the summer.

The company has also been selected as one of three contractors to deliver Anglian Water’s Integrated Operational Solutions (IOS).  The contract, which will also start in 2015, is worth approximately £70 million over five years, with an extension of a possible ten years.

The work will include appraisal and feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, the construction and installation of components, as well as asset refurbishment, demolition, dismantling and decommissioning.

The company will also be responsible for maintaining Anglian’s data on both water and water recycling assets.

In a statement, Kier said its bid had focused on meeting Ofwat targets such as improving customer service and providing safe, clean water.

Haydn Mursell, Kier Group finance director, said: “Through our partnership experience, we will deliver these services effectively and efficiently, working as one fully integrated organisation, and collaborating with them and the partner service providers to deliver the best possible service to customers.

“These contract awards demonstrate how our acquisition of May Gurney last year has enhanced Kier’s capabilities and strengthened our offering to clients.”

Earlier this month, Anglian Water named its capital delivery partners for a £1.3 billion Integrated Main Works Capital Alliance contract for the next price control period, from 2015-2020.

Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Grontmij, MMB – a joint venture of Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley – as well as MWH and Skanska, all signed contracts with the water company.
