Regulators asked to assess Rolls-Royce SMR design

Rolls-Royce SMR's design for its nuclear plant is entering the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process – the most significant step so far in securing consent for operation in the UK. The GDA process, developed by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency, assesses the environmental, safety and security aspects of reactor designs before construction of the reactor starts.
