The public awareness of smart meters has risen slightly, according to the latest survey by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc).
The third wave of Decc’s public awareness research revealed that 48 per cent of people said they had heard of smart meters but did not have one installed – up from 44 per cent in the previous two waves.
An additional 9 per cent of respondents said that had a smart meter installed in their home, which was up from 5 per cent in the previous surveys.
Almost half (49 per cent) remained undecided about the installation of smart meters, although support for them showed a slight increase, rising to 32 per cent from 29 in the previous wave.
The interest in having a smart meter remained steady at 40 per cent, but there was an increase in the number not interest in having one installed – up to 59 per cent from 55 per cent in wave two.
