Renewable energy firm Bboxx has appointed Simon J. Cox to the role of general counsel and global head of Legal and Compliance.
Cox joins the company during a period of expansion in Africa and Asia where its solar home systems and mini-grids are offering an alternative solution to traditional electricity grid infrastructures.
With more than 30 years’ experience in corporate law, Cox most recently worked as general counsel for ThomasLloyd Group, a global investment and advisory firm. He brings decades of international market experience, having worked at the helm of private equity deals, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and transactions across newly-emerging markets in Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia, Turkey, the Middle East and the Caribbean.
Cox said: “I am delighted to have joined Bboxx. Having first met the founders several years ago as their external legal adviser, I am pleased to have witnessed first-hand the company making huge strides in harnessing the power of data and applying its pioneering technology to provide clean, accessible and affordable electricity for the benefit of poorer and remote communities.
“I am looking forward to working with colleagues at Bboxx to apply my expertise and continue to drive the business forward, as it scales up, forges new partnerships and joint ventures, and enters new and exciting markets across the developing world.”
Bboxx CEO and co-founder Mansoor Hamayun welcomed Cox to the company and said his experience will be invaluable to the business’ growth.
“It is great to have Simon on board to support Bboxx along its growth trajectory. Simon knows the business well, having advised us over the years throughout our funding rounds and debt financing. I am delighted he has become our first general counsel and we will continue to benefit from his trusted advice,” commented Hamayun.
“This comes at an exciting time for Bboxx, as the firm has expanded its pioneering partnership strategy. We are entering new markets and geographies, partnering with governments, multi-nationals, investors, telecommunications companies, technology firms and Distributed Energy Service Companies (DESCOs), in order to bring clean, reliable and affordable electricity to the hundreds of millions of people in the world who currently live without power.
“Simon’s decades of experience and his expertise will be invaluable in supporting us as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of operating in these markets.”
