The Utility Week team has had a crunch meeting finalising our plans for Utility Week Live, which opens its doors at the NEC in Birmingham next week.
We’re deeply involved in the nitty gritty of the event now, finessing plans for logistics, hospitality for speakers and VIPS and the movements of the editorial team between debate chairing and reporting opportunities.
The sense of anticipation, and excitement in the office is becoming palpable – even through the extended discussions of car parking and travel arrangements!
In what will be my third Utility Week Live, chairing panel discussions and seminar presentations is front of mind. I will lead four sessions over the two days – all in the water theatre – and preparatory discussions with speakers lead me to promise some really valuable content will be on show for visitors that stop in.
Just a few of the topics we’ll talk about are: the regulatory shift from outputs to outcomes, the delivery of a new market structure as competition comes into play in less than twelve months, putting customer service at the heart of business operations, and the adoption of private pumping stations.
Elsewhere, my colleagues will host debates on other themes of the moment from the future of regulation in the water and energy sectors to progress with the smart meter rollout, the future of the gas network, and the “no dig vision” for street works – among many more.
Then there’s the small matter of the exhibition itself. The floor is jam-packed with technology and service suppliers who can walk the walk when it comes to demonstrating what innovation – our headline show theme this year – looks like in action.
If this weren’t enough to keep the editorial team busy then the cherry on the top of this year’s editorial plans for the show certainly will. For the first time we have an exciting list of video interviews to complete, conducted with support from the Institution for Engineering and Technology’s film crew.
See you there!
