Scottish water retailer Brightwater has acquired the customer portfolio of Blue Business Water.
Acquiring the Bristol-based retailer will bring Brightwater’s annual revenues to more than £9 million, the company said.
At the same time, Tom Barberton has been named managing director at Brightwater. Barberton has served as group sales director across the organisation’s water and waste management businesses since 2021. Prior to joining Brightwater, Barberton worked at British Gas, People’s Energy, Spark Energy and Total Energies.
Former managing director Rich Rankin, who founded the business in 2016, will remain with the organisation as a non-executive director.
Chief executive Roger Green said: “Tom is a great fit for us as managing director. He has lived through the deregulation process in electricity and can bring his knowledge and leadership to Brightwater and the water sector. He will take our philosophy of customer care and employee empowerment to the next level, while integrating the increased customer base into the main portfolio.”
Brightwater focuses on small and medium business customers and has the sixth largest customer base in the Scottish retail market. Water efficiency forms a core element of its services to customers and challenges Scottish businesses to lower consumption by 10%.
In Scotland the water retail market opened up in 2006 and was followed in 2017 by England and Wales.
