British Gas upgrades Hive smart thermostat

British Gas has updated its Hive smart heating app with a redesigned thermostat which will allow consumers more flexibility when controlling their heating and hot water.

The big six firm said Hive Active Heating 2 features a heating boost function for up to six hours, a holiday mode setting and a more flexible hot water and heating control setting.

British Gas also announced it will bolster its Hive smart range from autumn, with new products including lights which can be controlled remotely. The new product range will also include: plugs which allow the consumer to switch devices on and off remotely; motion sensors; and window and door sensors to notify consumers when doors and windows are open or closed.

Hive was set up by British Gas in 2012 and launched the Hive Active Heating app in 2013 to allow consumers to control their heating and hot water via an app when not in their home.

British Gas commercial director Nina Bhatia said: “Today we’ve fulfilled our promise by launching five products that help people control their entire homes – not just their energy – from the palm of their hands.

“We’re making the connected home an easy and accessible reality by bringing the whole system to people from one, trusted provider. We’re the only UK company to deliver the complete connected home experience to our customers – from product development to delivery, installation, and ongoing support.”
