Business Stream has said it remains “focussed on growth”, as it announced it has secured more than £155 million of new contract wins in the first 12 months of the open water market in England.

New contract wins include the UK-wide portfolios of Greggs, Morrisons and Debenhams and water and wastewater deals with Veolia, Places for People and Southampton Airport.

The retailer is now one of the largest in the market, with 154,064 customer supply points (around 6 per cent of the market). Chief executive Jo Dow said the company’s focus remains on growing the business further.

“We have been very targeted in our approach to growth, using our capability and experience gained from 10 years of operating in the Scottish retail water market to help secure over £155 million of new business to date,” she said.

“We are very passionate about water efficiency at Business Stream and are committed to working in partnership with our customers to help them use less water.

“This approach has been instrumental in helping us to secure over £155 million of new contracts, positioning Business Stream as one of the largest water retailers in the UK.”

Scotland’s non-domestic market opened to competition in April 2008. Since then, Business Stream said it has saved its customers more than £160 million on their water bills and conserved over 24 billion litres of water.

Before the English market opened, the company acquired the non-household customer base of exiting Southern Water.

The acquisition doubled Business Stream’s customer base overnight, making it one of the largest retail water suppliers in the UK.
