Business Stream wins contract with Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK has agreed a contract with Scotland’s largest non-domestic water retailer following a competitive tendering process.

Business Stream will provide water services across all the charity’s shops and stores in England and Scotland as well as helping them to improve the efficiency of their water usage.

Martin Elliott, head of retail property operations at Cancer Research UK, said: “As a large charity, it is vital that we are operating as efficiently as possible, both in terms of internal processes and in spend on utilities. By working with Business Stream, we can reduce the time spent on managing billing and instead focus on working with Business Stream to manage water more effectively”.

Jo Dow, chief executive of Business Stream, added: “We’re delighted to be working with Cancer Research UK to provide water expertise across the majority of their sites in Scotland and England. Our aim is to provide expert support to all our customers with a key focus on helping them to use less water.

“By working closely with Cancer Research UK, we will help them to generate water and waste water efficiencies, which in turn will deliver both environmental and financial savings.”

The chief executive of the Environment Agency, James Bevan, recently warned that water scarcity was a looming crisis for the UK. Delivering a keynote speech at Waterwise conference in London, he said that the country could be in the “jaws of death” when rising demand and falling supply intersect in 20 to 25 years.

Business Stream has pledged to help all its customers reduce their water consumption by a fifth.

Earlier this year, the company announced the acquisition of the customer bases of Yorkshire Water Business Services and Three Sixty.
