Householders are being urged to stock up on heating oil now by industry and consumer groups in a campaign backed by the department of energy and climate change (Decc).
Heating oil users are being advised to shop around for the best deal by the Buy Oil Early campaign, which is being run by Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), the Citizens Advice Bureau, Consumer Focus, and the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers (FPS).
Energy minister John Hayes has welcomed the campaign and added that “previous severe winters show that it is better to stock up before the cold weather sets in, when suppliers have spare delivery capacity.”
The campaign hopes that householders will have learnt from the cold snap in November and December 2010, where many customers found it difficult to get supplies as distributors were inundated with orders and deliveries were hampered by snow and ice on the roads.
