‘Volatility and unpredictability’ of transmission charges inflating renewable costs

The “volatility and unpredictability” of Transmission Network Use of System charges are inflating renewable costs and undermining the viability of some projects. Andrew Urquhart, head of whole system at Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Transmission, tells Utility Week some developers in the north of Scotland have reported having to factor a risk premium of as much as £10/MWh into their business case to reflect the uncertainty.

British Gas accelerates fleet electrification

British Gas has placed what it claims is the UK’s largest commercial order of electric vehicles (EVs) and has brought forward the date for electrifying its fleet. Ahead of its preliminary financial results revealed it has ordered 2,000 new all-electric Vauxhall Vivaro-e vans and will now aim to have a fully electric fleet by 2025, five years earlier than previously planned.
