WPD spearheads combined approach to local energy planning

A consortium led by Western Power Distribution (WPD) is working to create a combined approach to local energy planning to help local authorities and network companies achieve net zero. The Energy Planning Integrated with Councils (EPIC) project is being trialled in three areas in South West England and will seek to develop an agreed process for identifying and analysing energy plans in relation to the increased uptake of low carbon technologies.

Centrica targets gender parity by 2030

Centrica says attracting female employees is its biggest challenge as an employer, as it revealed plans to align its workforce with the latest census data by 2030. Part of its plans to create a more inclusive workforce include the introduction of a ‘shadow board’ of diverse employees which will “drive continuous improvement”, as well as mandating unconscious bias training for all staff.

Ofgem to assess Covid impact on domestic consumption

Ofgem has announced plans to postpone the scheduled update of typical domestic consumption values (TDCVs) for gas and electricity consumers to assess the impact of the pandemic. Since 2013 Ofgem said domestic consumption has been on a “consistent decreasing trend”. However, due to millions of people being forced to work at home, early indications suggest there has been an increase since the first national lockdown in March 2020.

Young people most likely to have rationed energy over winter

More than half of people aged 18 to 34 have rationed their energy usage this winter due to concerns about cost, new research has revealed. A survey of 4,000 people conducted on behalf of Comparethemarket.com found more than two in five (43 per cent) of all households rationed energy during the season.
