The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) should take a fresh look at whether to accelerate its timeframe for updating the regulatory framework for the energy retail market, Citizens Advice has urged. The charity said it should otherwise set out “least-regrets” options which can be taken under the current framework to facilitate innovation.

Four UK utilities have made it onto the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index of global publicly-listed companies that have scored highly across five areas: female leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand. In a separate ranking, four utilities made the top 50 UK employers for inclusivity.
The introduction of the energy price cap has “destroyed” the supply market and its removal is an essential precondition of any reform of the system, the UK’s first electricity regulator has told the government. Professor Stephen Littlechild, who was the first head of the Office of Electricity Regulation from 1989 to 1998, said keeping the price cap in place will deter competition from new entrants and "freeze" current market shares.
