British Gas’ parent company Centrica has named Ian Meakins as senior independent director.
He take up the role from 1 January and will be succeeding Mary Francis, who steps down from the role on 31 December.
Meakins joined Centrica as independent non-executive director in 1 October 2010, and he is currently the chief executive of Wolseley, which distributes heating and plumbing products.
Centrica chairman Rick Haythornwaite said: “Ian’s experience and expertise continues to make a very valuable contribution to Centrica and I look forward to working with him in his new capacity as senior independent director.”
