Cruachan pumped hydro plant becomes first facility to provide new stability service

The Cruachan pumped hydro plant in Scotland has become the first facility in Great Britain to provide the new stability service being trialled by National Grid Electricity System Operator. One of the four generating units at the power station will effectively be operated as a flywheel to provide low-carbon source of system inertia.
