Cuadrilla Resources has submitted a planning application to Lancashire County Council to move forward with its plan to extract shale gas reserves from its site in Preston New Road, a statement from the company said.
The company said just under two weeks ago that it expected to submit its plans for the Preston site by the end of May.
Cuadrilla said the application was submitted alongside an environmental statement based on its environmental impact assessment which was produced by consultants at Arup.
Both reports will be made available to public within two weeks, it added.
Previously, Cuadrilla said the environment report would include plans to implement seismic monitoring devices.
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is believed to have triggered a series of earth tremors in the Lancashire area in 2011 prompting the government to issue an 18 month shale gas moratorium on all fracking in the UK.
“Following validation [the council] will launch a formal consultation process in order to allow the public to comment,” Cuadrilla said in a statement.
A separate planning application for a second proposed exploration site, near Roseacre Wood, will be submitted “shortly”, it added.
