British Gas played down fears over its flagship partnership with smart thermostat provider Hive this week, saying a software fault that required a system update had been limited to just 40 customers.
The fault was created by the way the affected customer’s internet service providers were managing Hive’s data and prevented them from controlling their heating remotely. The effected customers were still able to use their on-wall thermostat.
Britsh Gas said Hive has not experienced this issue before and added: “We work hard and fast to fix any issues. We don’t expect this one to happen again”.
The system update was carried out remotely on Monday which should solve the problem for those impacted this week.
Hive Active Heating allows customers to control their heating and hot water remotely from their smartphone, laptop or tablet using wireless technology. Customers do not need have British Gas as their supplier to use the product.
