Dong boss takes strategic offshore wind role

Dong UK boss Benj Sykes has been appointed as co-chair of a key offshore wind forum, business and energy minister Michael Fallon announced on Tuesday.

Sykes replaces Scottish Power chief corporate officer Keith Anderson at the head of the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC).

The group brings together government and industry figures to drive offshore wind deployment, cut costs and build a UK supply chain. Sykes will work with Fallon, who also co-chairs the council.

Fallon said: “The UK is currently the best country in the world to invest in offshore wind. I’m looking forward to working closely with Benj to continue to build a competitive and innovative UK offshore wind sector that brings jobs, exports and economic benefits for the UK.”

Sykes is UK country manager at Danish energy company Dong, which is developing several offshore windfarms in the UK. He said: “OWIC has an important job in helping to drive the UK’s offshore wind industry forward. I’m looking forward to taking on this exciting and challenging role.”
