EA wastewater probe finds ‘widespread and serious’ non-compliance

One year on from launching its largest ever investigation, the Environment Agency has said it has seen evidence of "widespread and serious" non-compliance with regulations at wastewater treatment plants. The update on the ongoing probe, which is being conducted alongside an accompanying investigation by Ofwat, came shortly after the agency’s staff voted to stage their strike over pay in the organisation's 26-year history.
