EDF Energy launches auto-rollover contract with no exit fee

EDF Energy has launched a new automatic rollover contract with no exit fee for small business customers.

The supplier will now offer small businesses a 12 month fixed deal to customers who are on automatic renewal contracts without a penalty charge should the customer change tariff.

This differs to British Gas, Npower and SSE, who all committed to stop selling auto-rollover contracts to small businesses last week.

However, EDF Energy claims their offer is “the best of both worlds” for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), ending contract “lock-ins”.

Richard Hughes, director of small and medium businesses at EDF Energy, said they have listened to consumers by “boldly changing the renewal process”.

John Allan, the national chairman, at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has welcomed has welcomed the move but wants suppliers to do more.

He added: “We now want to see the big six to go one step further and publish small business energy tariffs so that SMEs can easily compare one supplier’s price to another without having to contact different suppliers or rely on an energy broker.”
