Turbine two at the 1,160MW plant in Lancashire was shut down at 6pm on Thursday 2 May as a precautionary measure after an on-site team saw the smoke coming from some lagging.

The incident was dealt with using a dry powder extinguisher the fire and rescue service attended the site as usual practice.

Ian Stewart, station director at Heysham 1, said: “Although this is a very minor incident we will be looking into the cause and ensuring that we learn any lessons from it which will help us avoid any repeat event in the future.”
