Electricity North West prepared for Christmas Storm Eva

Electricity North West (ENW) is prepared for severe weather over Christmas Day and Boxing Day in the North West of the country following an amber weather warning from the Met Office yesterday.

The Met Office issued a yellow “be aware” warning for rain in the North West, North East and Yorkshire and Humber regions on the UK on Christmas Day, moving into an amber “be prepared” warning on Boxing day in the North West.

ENW said it is closely monitoring the weather and engineers are ensuring key substations are protected, with “extra measures” being taken by the company to be ready.

The area served by the distribution operator has already been hit by bad weather in the form of Storm Desmond at the beginning of this month, when flooding caused more than 50,000 customers to lose power for several days in the Cumbria and Lancaster regions.

ENW operations director Mark Williamson said: “We worked around the clock recently restoring power to thousands of customers in Cumbria and Lancashire when Storm Desmond hit and I want to reassure our customers that we are on hand again and we’re doing everything we can to protect the network.
