Energy efficiency measures for large firms could benefit the UK by £1.9 billion, according to government proposals made today.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) is proposing that assessments are made under the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) to identify where industries can install energy efficiency measures.
On average, it is expected that an enterprise will invest £15,000 per year in energy efficiency measures and benefits from bill savings of £56,400 per year.
Energy minister Michael Fallon, said: “Investing in energy efficiency can hugely benefit our big businesses, helping British businesses get ahead in the global race.”
A consultation on the ESOS proposals, which is being developed as part of the UK’s implementation of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, runs until 3 October this year.
