Eon has expanded and extended its smart home trial in Milton Keynes.
The energy supplier has announced a one year extension to the Thinking Energy trial, which is being run in partnership with Milton Keynes Council.
The trial, which was launched in 2011, involves 75 family homes and aims to develop and test ways to manage energy use in the home and will now run until the summer of 2015.
These homes are now being fitted with intelligent boiler controls, room-by-room heating, and connected lights, which allows participants to control their lighting from a mobile device.
Simon Church, delivery manager for Eon’s Thinking Energy project, said: “We’re dedicated to driving innovation to help our customers control their energy use and use no more than they need and ground breaking technology is playing a key role in achieving this.”
Cllr David Hopkins, Milton Keynes Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member responsible for economic development and enterprise, added: “This project is crucial in enabling people in Milton Keynes to use their energy smartly and significantly cut their associated costs.”
