Eon’s new retail arm Eon Next has taken on around 15,000 customers from recently failed supplier Hub Energy.
In an announcement this afternoon (12 August) the energy regulator revealed the retailer, which recently finished migrating Npower’s customers into the business, will begin supplying Hub’s approximately 6,000 domestic customers and 9,000 non-domestic customers from tomorrow.
Neil Lawrence, Ofgem’s director of retail, said: “I am pleased to announce we have appointed Eon Next as the new supplier for customers after Hub Energy entered insolvency.
“We understand that this news may be unsettling for customers, however they do not need to worry. Their energy supply will continue as normal, and all domestic and non-domestic customer credit balances held on their accounts will be protected by Eon Next.”
Lancashire-based Hub Energy became the third supplier of 2021 to cease trading earlier this week.
It joins Green Network Energy and Simplicity Energy, both of which exited the market in January.
Four suppliers entered the SoLR process last year. They were Gnergy, Effortless Energy, Tonik and Yorkshire Energy.
Council-backed suppliers Robin Hood and Bristol Energy also ceased trading and sold their customers to other retailers in 2020.
