Eon pays £1m to help vulnerable households clear energy debt

Eon has provided £1 million to help 1,600 vulnerable households pay energy debt and replace boilers since it launched its Energy Fund in April this year.

Eon set up the fund as part of its commitment to Ofgem to use the money it owed to previous customers, but was unable to return, to benefit vulnerable customers.

The fund supports successful applicants pay energy debt and buy or replace boilers and white goods.

The fund has a total of £6 million to support customers of any energy supplier who are seriously ill, of pensionable age, on benefits or receive tax credits, or are low-income households.

Eon’s residential and customer operations director David Bird said: “We’ve made a really good start with our £6 million Eon Energy fund since we launched it in April, so far helping more than 1,600 households with £1 million worth of support.

“But we know there are many more eligible people out there who may be worried and in need of a helping hand with their energy bills, especially with winter just around the corner. That’s why we’re urging anyone who thinks they could qualify for support to find out if and how we can help.”
