12-month deal includes over £250 worth of cinema going, claims energy supplier

Big six energy supplier Eon has launched a new fixed rate dual fuel tariff which tempts customers to switch to it by offering free cinema tickets.

Customers signing up the Eon Fixed 1 year Cinema Bundle will receive two free cinema vouchers each month which can be redeemed at Vue and Odeon cinemas across the UK. Eon claims the bundle will save customers £262.56 in cinema fees. The tariff itself will cost £1,100 for direct debit customers.

Speaking about its latest offer, Chris Lovatt, managing director of Eon’s residential business said the offer of free cinema tickets will help customers “relax and unwind…without having to worry about the cost”.

He added: “With the offer being linked to a fixed price one year tariff, people who sign up will also get the reassurance that their prices are protected for a period of 12 months, giving them peace of mind and freeing them up to do more of the things they really love.”

The new deal comes hard on the heels of Eon’s announcement last week that it will scrap standard variable tariffs (SVTs) for new and existing smart meter customers.

SVTs have become a point of controversy in the energy market since the Competition and Market Authority found that they were causing widespread consumer detriment and exacerbating customer disengagement with their energy use.

In May this year, Engie entered the UK domestic energy retail market with a promise not to use SVTs as a rollover mechanism for customers whose fixed price deals are coming to an end. Instead, it said that customers would be moved on to their cheapest available tariff at the time.

Eon is yet to give details of the fixed rate deal its smart meter customers will be rolled on to.
