Big six supplier Eon has extended its independent Energy Fund to people with serious illness to enable them to receive support with their energy bills.
The £6 million fund is already open to all energy customers, regardless of supplier, who are terminally ill, are unemployed, on low-incomes or in receipt of certain tax credits.
The fund provides support for the payment of energy debt and the replacement of white goods and gas boilers for successful applicants.
Eon’s residential and customer operations director David Bird said: “For some people, help with energy bills is needed due to medical reasons, such as having to keep the heating on for longer than usual. This can cause additional stress during what is often already a tremendously difficult time.
“We’ve already been offering support for people who are terminally ill and believe that extending this support to include people with a serious illness is the right thing to do – for seriously ill people and for those they live with.”
To be eligible customers must be able to show proof of illness through a doctor or medical practitioner’s letter.
The fund, set up in April, has already helped almost a thousand people since its launch.
