Eon has won the rights to offer the UK’s cheapest dual fuel energy tariff via a collective switching initiative with price comparison site Uswitch.com.
The major energy supplier won the right to offer the tariff following an auction process held by Uswitch last month. All suppliers were invited to submit tariff options into the auction process.
The £803 one year fixed deal was launched yesterday and is £28 a year cheaper than the market’s previous leading offer from GB Energy Supply. Independent supplier First Utility previously offered the cheapest fixed price deal at £840.
The deal is only available through Uswitch.com for dual fuel and electricity only customers until 3 November.
Speaking to Utility Week, Uswitch.com director of consumer policy Ann Robinson said the offer is the cheapest bid submitted by supplier based on the average consumption of Uswitch customers.
She added: “Collective switches have their own place in the market. I think they provide comfort and reassurance, and it’s a handholding job to people who feel very insecure about comparing the whole market.
“This is a very good way into the market that can help a lot of people save money.”
