David Clarke, chief executive of the Energy Technologies Institute, has died suddenly.
Utility Week understands that Clarke passed away this weekend.
The chief executive joined the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) in 2008 having formerly been head of technology strategy at Rolls Royce.
He has since been instrumental in advancing ETI’s research agenda which addresses developments in a range of key technologies as well as energy system planning.
On receiving news of his death, ETI chairman Sir Rob Margetts said: “We are shocked and deeply saddened at the passing of our chief executive Dr David Clarke.
“David was a leader, a colleague and a friend to us and we will miss him terribly. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and we will do our best to ensure the legacy of the ETI is a fitting tribute to David who has led the organisation with passion and integrity since its establishment.”
Clarke was also a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, fellow of the Institute of Materials, Metals and Mining, fellow of the Energy Institute and a Chartered Engineer. His contributions to collaborative research and development span a 20 year career.
