Everflow granted licence for water retail

Everflow becomes latest licensee in English non-household water market

Scottish new entrant Everflow has become the latest retailer to join the English water market, ahead of market opening in two weeks’ time.

The retailer applied to Ofwat for a water supply and sewerage licence at the beginning of January, saying it hopes to attract businesses through a “commitment to transparent pricing”.

Everflow was granted its licence for the Scottish market in October 2015. It has since sold water and wastewater services to businesses in Scotland, and will now be able to do the same in England.

There are now 20 licenced participants in the English market, including brewer Greene King, which was granted a self-supply licence today.

A further three companies – Glas Cymru subsidiary Cambrian Utilities, utility consultancy ADSM, and utility company Peel Water – await the outcomes of their applications.

The market is due to open for 1.2 million non-household customers of providers based mainly or wholly in England on 3 April. The idea is that this will link with the existing market in Scotland, which opened to business customers in April 2008.
