Firmus Energy will reduce gas prices by 7.7 per cent in the Ten Towns area of Northern Ireland.

The reduced tariff prices will save the supplier’s 28,000 customers in the area an average of £43 per year, effective from April 1. it follows a 9.75 per cent cut to its standard gas tariff in the Greater Belfast area last week.

Firmus Energy managing director Michael Scott said: “We have more than 28,000 customers in the Ten Towns area and continually strive to keep our natural gas prices as low and as stable as possible for our customers.

“Along with our excellent customer service we monitor all costs and global wholesale fuel prices on a daily basis to ensure our tariffs offer the best value possible and any savings are passed on as soon as we can to our customers.”

The Utility Regulator in Northern Ireland chief executive Jenny Pyper welcomed the announcement: “This is the third reduction in regulated energy prices we have seen in Northern Ireland in the last month. In the last year, Firmus Energy’s customers in the Ten Towns area will have seen their bills reduce by around 12 per cent.

“The main reason for the decrease is falling wholesale gas costs. As we regulate Firmus Energy’s prices in the Ten Towns, their customers can be confident, that due to our regulation, their bills reflect the actual costs of supplying gas to their homes and businesses.”
