Customers will be offered discounts in return for fixing their energy prices.
The independent energy provider First Utility has launched a discount scheme to reward energy customers with cut-price broadband.
Any customers fixing their energy prices for either one, two or three years will be offered discounted broadband prices.
The discount increases with the amount of time customers agree to fix their energy price, so for example, a three-year energy price plan will also mean a £60 a year saving on high-speed fibre broadband.
The provider launched its own broadband service in March, promising no set-up fees or upfront charges and no price increase at the end of the contract term.
Recent research by First Utility suggests almost three quarters (72 per cent) of UK households are paying “out-of-contract” rates for their broadband and could be spending a total of £1.7 billion a year more than necessary.
“We’re determined to make it easier and cheaper for people to manage their homes, which is why we’re slashing the price of broadband even further for those who choose us for both services,” said chief commercial officer, Ed Kamm.
“We know that both energy and broadband are considered essential utilites for most, so with our long track record in delivering energy to almost a million homes, it makes sense for us to offer customers additional discounts in broadband.”
