Former RWE Innogy MD joins Solo Energy as chair

Energy storage specialist Solo Energy has announced it has appointed a former managing director of RWE Innogy as chair of the board.

Julia Lynch Williams, who has 30 years of experience in energy retail markets, will help develop investor relations and advise on commercial strategies as part of her role.

At RWE Innogy she led the development of new businesses through the “start-up incubator” where she co-founded the solar energy business Shine.

Following her appointment, the new chair said: “I’m delighted to join Solo Energy and help bring its virtual energy network model to fruition. The team has a strong vision for the future, backed by a powerful business model.

“It will ultimately empower people to take control of their personal energy management, making it completely transparent to the consumer and putting them in control of their energy usage.”

Solo Energy, an Irish company based in Cork, installs batteries and vehicle-to-grid chargers into homes and businesses at no cost, which are aggregated into a “Virtual Power Plant” (VPP) through its cloud-based FlexiGrid platform, adding storage capacity to the grid.

Mark Hamilton, chief executive and co-founder of Solo Energy, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Julia as our chair. Her experience and network in the industry will be invaluable in helping us grow the business to scale as we continue gaining momentum.

“Our goal is to pave the foundation for a 100 per cent renewable future, and Julia will provide the commercial expertise to help us do that.”

Last month, Solo Energy appointed Ben Hill, the former vice-president of Tesla EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) as commercial and technical adviser.
