Energy & Utility Skills (EUS) has launched an inclusion framework to paint a picture of diversity across the utilities sector.
As Utility Week’s recent analysis pointed out, many utilities companies do not ask their employees for information on their ethnicity, meaning there is little data on which to base any moves to make the sector more diverse.
The Workforce Renewal and Skills Strategy 2020 – 2025 facilitated by the EUS Partnership recognised that the energy and utilities sector’s workforce diversity is below the UK averages for gender, BAME and disability and committed to embed diversity and inclusion into the core of the sector’s workforce strategy.
To this end, an inclusion measurement framework has been created in partnership with equality, diversity and inclusion experts The Equal Group.
The framework will measure inclusion across the following themes:
- Leadership
- Attraction & Recruitment
- Retention
- Progression
The measures will be reported on at sector, industry, regional and organisational levels, with the results available in November.
Louise Parry, director of people at EUS, said: “As one of the Energy & Utilities Inclusion Commitment priorities the measurement framework enables employers to collate data to determine their starting point. The results will provide a baseline measure to determine clear actions for the sector and participating companies in working towards a diverse and inclusive workforce that is reflective of the communities they serve.”
The window for submitting data opens today (21 September). For more information email louise.parry@euskills.co.uk
