Gaelectric has named Barry Gavin as chief executive with effect from 1 October.

He succeeds current chief executive Brendan McGrath.

Speaking about his appointment, Gavin said: “It will be a privilege to lead Gaelectric as we embark on the next phase of our development as a renewable energy solutions provider, developer and operator of generating assets. Our mission is to empower next generation energy users with power from nature.

“I am excited about leading our team of skilled professionals across Gaelectric’s business divisions to deliver on this mission commercially, for our customers and investors.”

Chairman of the board of Gaelectric Holdings, Ciaran O’Brien, said: “We are delighted to appoint Barry as Group [chief executive]. In his previous executive roles, and from his position on the board, Barry has been central to the development of Gaelectric’s businesses from its early beginnings as a windfarm developer through the growth and rollout of its wind portfolio, and in establishing strong positions in related renewable energy businesses including energy storage, bioenergy, solar, and energy trading and markets services.

“Barry will lead a strong team of engineering, finance and technical professionals in Gaelectric’s Dublin, Belfast, Manchester and Chicago offices.”

Gavin is a founding shareholder of Gaelectric and has held senior executive positions as chief financial officer and chief operating officer.

Prior to his work with Gaelectric, he held a number of senior positions in commercial and financial functions in a number of industries. He is a chartered management accountant.
