GDF Suez states tidal power intentions

GDF Suez aims to develop two tidal power plants to harness France's strongest tidal currents.

The company said today that it aims to initially test up to 12MW at Raz Blanchard, Normandy, from 2015. The eventual aim is for up to 100 turbines at the site, all or some of which may be supplied by Voith Hydro, said the company.

From 2016,GDF Suez plans to start building a tidal power plant at the Passage du Fromveur site in Brittany. Its subsidiary, Eole Generation, has signed a deal with tidal engineering firm Sabella to use its research data on the site and its prototype turbine.
