Business energy supplier GDF Suez Energy UK has launched a new service for commercial and industrial energy users to help track their energy use ahead of tight supply periods expected this winter.
Currently the supplier warns customers ahead of periods of peak winter demand through as many as 25 emailed alerts every winter. But the new offering will also alert clients to their current energy consumption patterns ahead of a predicted period of high demand to allow customers to adapt their usage before the peak.
The data could help customers to avoid TNUoS (or Transmission Network Use of System) charges that appear on businesses’ electricity bills each year which are based directly on average electricity consumption during ‘triad’ periods, or the highest three half hourly periods of peak demand per winter.
GDF Suez said it has accurately predicted 20 of the 21 triad periods over the last 7 years.
The opportunity to improve load management is particularly important as TNUoS charges rise, the company added.
“In Northern Scotland, for example, the annual charges have gone up by an incredible 378 per cent since 2009,” said GDF Suez team leader for electricity demand forecasting Alistair Johnson.
“The escalating charges mean it’s never been more important for businesses to try to reduce their energy consumption during triads,” he added.
Those opting for the service will receive data from the day before a triad warning showing the previous day’s metered consumption, the five day working average consumption, and the minimum and maximum consumption over the previous five days.
