Good Energy to offer business customers local renewable electricity

Good Energy business customers will be able to match with local renewable generators to buy electricity, after the independent supplier signed an agreement with Open Utility.

The deal will give Good Energy business customers access to Open Utility’s Piclo software, allowing them to buy local green energy from a wide portfolio of generators across the UK.

The multi-year agreement follows a six-month pilot, and is the first commercial agreement for a peer-to-peer energy matching service.

Good Energy chief executive Juliet Davenport said: “Good Energy would like to see a decentralised energy system where control is in the hands of the people and businesses who use it.

“Open Utility has developed a digital platform (Piclo) which offers end users more choice and control. We look forward to developing a proposition which is attractive to business users and renewable generators.”

Good energy will manage all aspects of market rollout, customer recruitment and program administration.

Open Utility chief executive James Johnston said: “In a highly competitive UK electricity market, transparency and choice are the keys to success.

“Good Energy has recognised that their business customers want to buy renewable electricity from local generators. The Piclo platform gives them the unique ability to provide customers with the data and control over their energy supply chain through a simple and intuitive online service.

“We are thrilled to have secured our first customer and to contribute to the success of Good Energy.”
