Energy retailers have an additional six months under the current smart meter rollout obligations before the new framework will be implemented, the government has announced. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has taken the decision to extend the current ‘all reasonable steps’ obligation by six months from 1 July due to the impact of the pandemic. This is the second six month extension due to Covid and will see the rollout deadline moved to 31 December 2025.
