Government taking ‘lax approach’ to climate impacts on infrastructure

A scathing report on the resilience of the UK’s critical national infrastructure in the face of extreme weather has uncovered “an extreme weakness at the centre of government”. The Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy accused ministers of not engaging with the subject, with one lambasted for a “dereliction of duty”. The committee has called for the creation of a ministerial post for critical infrastructure resilience and a team within the Cabinet Office to focus on the issue.
