Former Conservative environment secretary John Gummer, Lord Deben, is the new chair of the Climate Change Committee, government has confirmed.
The appointment was widely expected. Earlier today the Energy & Climate Change Committee rubber-stamped the preferred candidate despite his interest in Veolia Water (see this story).
Lord Deben said under his stewardship the committee “would remain firmly independent, giving impartial, scientifically well-founded advice to the UK Government and devolved administrations”.
