Eon-UK this weekend demolished the remaining cooling towers at its High Marnham site in Nottinghamshire.
Eon decided in 2010 that it would not pursue plans for a new gas-fired generating station at the site, saying that demand for electricity had fallen.
The five towers remaining were demolished at 10am on Sunday. Further remedial works at High Marnham – which Eon said remained an “excellent opportunity for future generation” but not one it would take up under current plans – will take several months.
